Still have a few albums to listen to, but December is usually a slow music month, so here is a primer for my other lists that will come later. Here are my 10 favorite EPs of 2015.
10. You're Gonna Make It by Mates of State
Remember these guys? They still make very catchy music, which they can't seem to keep the momentum up for on a full album so an EP might be just enough Mates of State for the most of us.
9. Crosswords by Panda Bear
In many ways this EP just feels like the natural extension of the Panda album that came out this year, which is also great. So naturally, it deserves a place here.
8. Love is Free by Robyn & La Bagatelle Magique
It's new Robyn. What else do you need to know?
7. So Classic by The Knocks
Classic is the EP's anchor but it's full of other gems, like "Collect My Love" and a killer remix. It's a shame it's over way too soon.
6. Small Talk by MNEK
MNEK is dope. This EP is dope. You guys like dope sh*t right? This is dope sh*t.
5. The Beyond / Where The Giants Roam by Thundercat
The talent on this EP is insane, and it doesn't disappoint. Wish we got a full album full of this goodness, because 6 songs ain't enough grooves y'all.
4. I Don't Want To Let You Down by Sharon Von Etten
It's a little sad sack, but it's the good kinda sad sack. Sharon gots chops too and the songs cut.
3. February 15 by Nao
The other EPs on the list are great but it's the top 3 that are in another league. This is next level sh*t right here. And all are R&B infused, which gives me hope for the state of the genre.
2. M3LL155X by FKA twigs
Well, FKA twigs is here to stay you guys. And my god does her stuff bang. Nearly flawless EP, and most year this would be far and the way the best EP to come out all year. So close though.
1. Hallucinogen by Kelela
Six tracks of nearly flawless edgy R&B music. Quite possibly the most consistently great collection of music that came out this year. No joke.
